What to see and do

A trekker crossing Carhuacocha riverCordillera Huayhuash extends around 30 km, here takes place one of the greatest trekking circuits anywhere: snow-covered peaks, colorful lakes, clear streams, green lands, a great biodiversity in flora and fauna; andean customs, etc.

In this mountain range are found Yerupaja 6634m, the second highest peak in Peru (behind Huascaran), Siulá Grande 6344m the mount where took place the story for the International Best seller ‘Touching the Void’ written by Joe Simpson and made in film in 2003, six peaks that overcome 6000m and tents of mountains that overcome 5000m; many nice lakes and rivers where is possible to fish trouts and campesinos that graze their sheep, alpacas, llamas, etc.

Besides to trek in Cordillera Huayhuash is possible to climb two peaks that are considered of moderate difficult (Pumarinri 5465m and Diablo Mudo 5530m), these can be climbed during a trekking tour, the other peaks are only for experienced climbers.

Among the activities to carry out in Cordillera Huayhuash are: trekking, camping, fishing, climbing and horse riding, most of these activities can be included during a trekking tour, with the excpetion of climbing a difficult peak.
